the mechanoids, four horseman and so forth....

Unread post by Crash187 »

so did anyone else get inspired by the material in rifts mechanoids and rifts africa? I know it was years ago but I still fondly remember the campaign I built based on those books. it was unreal. first of all my player group blundered all over the place and ended up giving the mechanoids an oppurtunity to get their hands on genetics and robotics facilities thereby setting them up to defeat the CS which they did. Our heroes were forced to flee to europe and consequently the battle to save earth from the swarm was fought in new camelot. don't even get me started on the four horseman fiasco. those were hands down the best games I ever ran. anyone out there have a similar experience to share?

My group had a blast with the mechanoids.. (literally, nothing like using a fusion reaction to detonate a nuclear warhead to get rid of the mechanoids... of course when you lose 4 of 8 players doing it...)

the best line from that was to the mega juicer who was in the blast range.

"you see a very intense white light."

"Really?"

"yup. And standing in the middle of that light is this guy in white sort of sun god robes, a long white beard"

It's a line from the movie Real Genius (starring a very young Val Kilmer).

Mechanoids one of the best book and campaign material ever.

Have to admit Africa could have been better.

Too little information, would have liked to seen more on the major nations outside of Egypt (South Africa for one). Figure enough tech out of South Africa would have survived to provide for the people. Still the Four horseman are exillent threat and provide great adventure fodder.

Someone needs to do Africa 2 as a world book
I've got an advanced pre-rifts energy rifle, A soul drinking rune blade, living bio armor, and a hover truck full of nukes. So why do I feel under equipped for this??? (Sir Joe the Gardner 7th level Ogre Keeper of the garden on his first encounters with the Mechanoids)

In the campaign I am working on I definitely plan to include the Mechanoids, either in the Madhaven Rifts trying to open it with enslaved shifters after a destruction campaign all over the east (do I heart ARCHIE?) and/or in an invasion to the Wormwood world. What do you think they best fit? :?
