Elect the next CCW CEO!

Unread post by Braden Campbell »

The CEO of the Consortium Congress has died while still in office! Former CEO Raynor Seneca (Terran) has passed away at the age 195, and now the Congress must elect a new Executive Officer.

You, as members in the Congress, must now cast your ballots. Voting will be open for one week. Please see the attached ballot for those currently running.

Tiede Eilert: a well-respected Noro peacemaker, who has initiated first contact with 17 new member species, including the Faustians. He is currently the CCW's top representative in arms limitation talks with the Kreeghor.

Voirr Jawhn: a Loyalist Wolfen, and retired Quatortia. Her platform would include the expulsion of the T'zee (unless they immediately bring themselves up to code with the Compact) and an aggressive policy of "repatriating" the Dark Tribe Wolfen of the TGE.

General Galen Sal: at 178, he is one of the oldest members of Congress. A retired Fleet Officer, and veteran of many military campaigns. He advocates increased military spending, and a concerted effort to find the Cosmic Forge.

Margaret Kyler: A practicing scientist (PhD in Xenology), Dr. Kyler wishes to improve the deplorable living conditions on Malthus' World. She support arms limitation talks with the TGE, as well as several initiatives to protect endangered alien biospheres (green party platform).

Branden Cuthbert: a well established businessman, and a member on the Naruni Board of Directors (if elected he will step down from the Board to avoid conflict of interest). He promises to restructure taxes within the CCW to aid corporate growth.

Note: As Speaker of the House, my vote will be held until the end, and will be used as tie-breaker if need be.

The Coalition delegation from Chi-Town gives its endorsement to Voirr Jawhn. Not only does she discriminate against vile d-bee scum (at least one kind ... it's a good starting point) but her extensive use of bionics ensures that she is free of the all corrupting taint of magic.

I am of the opinion that Voirr Jawhn is the only logical choice. Too many groups within the Three Galaxies see the CCW as an organization without teeth, a group too frightened to take action. Voirr Jawhn is a woman of action. The expulsion of the T'zee will show the rest of the galaxy that the CCW is willing to batten down the hatches, and will no longer accept being treated as a pacifistic joke.

Tiede is the way to go. Tiede can expand contact to the Mechanoids, who will then wreck havoc on the CCW, forcing them to discard democracy, declare totalitarian martial law, and then we won't have to worry about voting on this kind of poll ever again.

Just one thing, isn't 178 still kinda young? Doesn't one of the books mention a race that naturally lives to 75, but with modern medical treatments and equipment they can live to 400?

Interesting.

In the first 24 hours of voting, Voirr Jawhn has pulled ahead to over 60%... but that lead is slowly diminishing.

Apparently no one wants to support Dr. Kyler's environmental protection plans yet.

And the militant religious right (General Sal) is slowly gaining ground.

This could go to a second ballot between the Wolfen and the Noro, marking the first time in 50 years that a Terran has not held the position of CEO.

But the race is still young...

Well, as I told my wife (who was only half listening at the time), the Congress still runs on "rep by pop*". So even if a non-Terran gets elected CEO, the Human Alliance still has enough of a majority to stall or scuttle any legislation they want (which is why the Machine People weren't admitted - Terrans hate thinking machines).

That really makes the CEO a finter puppet to the terrans regardless of who is elected. Unless by some stroke of good luck legislation get through to change the congress into a less terran based entity.

I agree, even if the CCW do want to go to war, they need as much money as they can get (there's nothing more expensive than war) and trade is the best way of establishing that. Especially because trade will be hampered as soon as war starts.

As far as searching for the cosmic forge, geez, what a waste of time and money.

And as the second day of voting and congressional deliberation comes to a close, we see that the Wolfen Voirr Jawhn's lead is shrinking again. Tiede Eilert, the distinguished Noro representative, is taking it easy, slowly building up a voting base.

Dr. Kyler's "green" platform finally got some support from a few congressional members, as did Mr. Cuthbert's economic reforms.

Some members support General Sal, but are wary of his "religious right" constituents who seek the Cosmic Forge.

Overall, the vote for CEO is boiling down to one key issue: should the Consortium turn to a more militant policy towards its enemies (foreign and domestic)?

Third day of voting, and a quiet one in the Congress. Most of the delegates are busily contacting their homeworlds, and receiving instructions on how to vote. The polls remain unchanged from yesterday.

In a related story, Rylcus Adash Klinn, the TGE's chief spokesman at the ongoing SALT* Talks, said that he laughs at our wasteful democratic process, but looks forward to continuing a dialogue with whomever is elected as the new CEO. The Rylcus also hinted that the Dark Tribe Wolfen chose to join the TGE (rather than face outright destruction) and should therefore be considered full citizens of the Empire, and not as a subjugated people who yearn to be free.

There are now only two days left to register your votes.

In a related story: General Sal held a press conference today at the Ryan's Landing Fleet Yards, orbiting Planet Goldielox. In it, he railed against Tiede Elert's "peaceful co-existence" policy.

"The Kreeghor are monsters", he said, " with no compassion towards us at all. Anyone who believes that they will agree to live by any proposed treaty is delusional."

He also said that the CCW as a whole, is totally unprepared for war against the TGE; that none if its fleet commanders has ever seen action in a total war scenario.

"Congresswoman Jhan is on the right rack", he said, "but we shouldn't focus on repatreating some few tribes of Wolfen. that will only start a war from which we will never recover. Only the power of the Cosmic Forge will allow us to destroy the TGE once and forever."

When asked if he had been made aware that the Star Elves of the United Worlds of Warlock had announced that they would soon be leaving the Three Galaxies for fear of an apocalyptic war that would destroy everything, the General had no comment.

In related news, General Galen Sal apparently suffered some form of mental breakdown on the last day of the campaign.

During a rally he began muttering about the TGE corrupting our "precious bodily fluids" and was escorted off the dias by his aides.

A spokesdroid for the general later attributed this to the fatigue caused by the campaign and said that the general will take a brief leave of absence to recover before returning to his position within the CAF.

Galactic News Network regrets its innaccuracy in previously reporting this story. The corrected version is now posted. GNN apologizes to the General, his spokesdroid and its viewers.

I want to thank my superb campaign team. I want to thank you all for your hard work. (Applause.) I was impressed every day by how hard and how skillful our team was.

I want to thank the thousands of our supporters across the Consortium. I want to thank you for your hugs on the rope lines; I want to thank you for your prayers on the rope lines; I want to thank you for your kind words on the rope lines. I want to thank you for everything you did to make the calls and to put up the signs, to talk to your neighbors and to get out the vote. (Applause.) And because you did the incredible work, we are celebrating today. (Applause.)

We are entering a new era for the Consortium. We'll continue our economic progress. We'll reform our outdated tax code. We'll strengthen the Social Security for the next generation. And we will uphold our deepest values of freedom and co-operation.

We will help the emerging worlds throughout the Three Galaxies -- (applause) -- so they can grow in strength and defend their freedom. We will ensure, by any and all means neseccary, that the Consortium never falls to those who would see us fall; those who hate us for our personal liberties, and despise our love of peace. (Applause.) When we see those who have been denied the rights and privileges which we all take for granted, we will fight openly on their behalf, never stopping, until all the Galaxies are free. (Applause.)

Reaching these goals will require the broad support of the entire CCW Congress. So today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponents: To make the Consortium stronger and better I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust. (Applause.)

Let me close with a word to the people of the Wolfen Republic. For decades, I helped to enforce our laws, and protect our way of life. But there is no doubt that we are a broken people; no denying that the Tribes have been split apart by force. We in the Republic joined the Consortium initially because we had no choice, but now relish the prosperity that membership brings us. We have not forgotten the Dark Tribes. We have not forgotten our lost brothers and sisters, living in bondage and servitude. And under my tenure as CEO, the Consortium will do everything it can to bring them back into the pack where they belong! (Applause.)

The campaign has ended, and the Consortium of Civilized Worlds goes forward with confidence and faith. I see a great age coming, and I am eager for the work ahead. may the Forge belss all of you, and may the Forge bless the Consortium. (Applause.)

I knew there was some reason it grated on me :P

Her speech cold also be seen as an open declaration of support for the Free Worlds Council (which is currently considered to be an internal matter of the Empire, and therefore none of the rest of universe's business.)

Sending troops into the FWC is bad news...

Like I said, the Marshall and the General both realistically expect a war with the TGE. We might as well have te one who knows how to win it in office.

A police officer, no matter how skilled, doesn't know how to win a war.

Dateline: Terra Prime

Six months into her first term as Prime Minister, Viorr Jawhn announced today that members of the TVIA will begin an investigation into the activities of both Naruni Enterprises and the Thundercloud Development Company.

The TDC, or more commonly referred to as "the Company", was created 450 years ago under the power of the Consortium Authority. Its on-going mission is to explore and develop the Thundercloud Galaxy. The creation of the Company enabled the Authority to use private resources, such as corporate sponsorship, to help fund its work. Through their governmental link to the Authority, Consortium chartered companies have the power to make treaties with alien Heads of State, form banks, manage and distribute land to colonists, and raise its own police force to protect said colonies. In return, the companies agreed to develop the territory they controlled, to respect indigenous laws, to allow free trade within its territory, and to respect all religions.

For the past two centuries now, rumours have abounded that the Company has repeatedly violated the Civilization Compact in the pursuit of its mandate. Chief Inspector Addison Sholl of the TVIA, says that "the situation in the Thundercloud has been ongoing for years, and no one back home here in the Corkscrew has any real idea of what is going on there. We will plan to open up Naruni's books, and have a serious look."

Sholl also said that current Company CEO, Michaela Saltser , will also fall under close scrutiny.

What's wrong with Turkey. We have that at Thanksgiving time. It's delicious.
