Superheroes during the apocalypse
Has anyone else out there thought of just transitioning their HU2 campaigns into the coming of the rifts?

in the past I usually have this setting:
group #1 (HU2/pre-rifts earth dimension) gets rifted to 105pa via strange accident in a physics lab or some such crazy thing
*simultaneously*
group #2 (other dimension--be it Robotech or pfrpg or whatever) gets rifted to same time NEAR same place as group #1 via a separate, similarly crazy accident with a fold system or whatever
NOTE: both groups are TOTAL FOREIGNERS to Rifts Earth
a cautiously friendly local (usually ley in walker or similar) ends up meeting one group and being a paid guide until some conflict leads the two groups into a friendship of necessity...much adventures of exploration, folly, and craziness ensue
I've done this type of campaign twice now and it's awesome. Simple exploration of North America and trying to find somewhere to put down roots or a stable base of ops is the setting for great adventure

Man, I wish I could be a player in your upcoming campaign.
Before I took up GMing as a seemingly full-time job I had an awesome 4th lvl Superpowered Mutant Tiger (almost munchkin, granted) who was thoroughly awesom to play. Instead, I GM'd and used him as my PC's NPC group leader. As a smart kitty, he helped guide them (with a velvet glove) down the path to adventure instead of death (usually anyway) and as an-almost munchkin NPC he bailed 'em out (deus ex machina style) of a number of misadventures which would have cost the whole party their lives.
NOTE: never tangle with a full CS platoon without a 5-ton mutant tiger to get your back.

I don't restrict powers: But, the bad guys are going to be powered appropriately. So, you can have Super-EE.

Geronimo 2.0 wrote:Hell Yeah, just give them appropriate MDC or MDC armor (depending on the character type). Or, you could have them get Rifted in and not realize that it is not their Earth... that is, until they see themselves in a comic book.
I try to avoid MDC like I avoid leperosy.
No, actually, I shun MDC moreso.
I have however, had characters travel to parallel dimensions and see themselves as works of fiction.

Check out the black-cover Spider-Man about the superhero response to 9-11. I see that as being pretty representative of how heroes would respond to the fall.

In an article I wrote for Chaos Earth that I submitted last year made mention of a penitentiary that housed Golden Age villians who abused the abilities that they gained from technology. These could have been abilities caused by anything from genetic alterations to inventors. I left it open for the GM and only mentioned that they broke out from the prision and declared a leader. They were a gang in an area just outside the boundaries that I was writing about. I thought that was a good plot hook. I hinted that you wanted your colony to stay unnoticed by them so as to not to draw their attention. I mentioned it so that the GM could make a really NASTY group which could be a re-occuring antagonist.
Maybe the article will see printing some day. The 'Tank reviewed it. It was the first setting article that I've written. It was a fun article for me.

I was thinking about a Worldly or Dedicated Martial Artist from Ninjas and Superspies who all of a sudden could kick down entire walls and realized he could not be killed from normal bullets...

i see most of the heroes falling in battle with the first week only the powerful or skilled fighters would be alive going into the second week

Oh God, the Boxer Rebellion is back!

There would most definitely be a lot of attrition. Not necessarily the most powerful would survive only, though: The most resourceful and skilled would also rise to the top. Anyone as skilled as General Sawyer, for instance (she compares well to a character like the Secret Operative, although she likely has a much bigger budget for weapons and vehicles).
