Got a question for y'all
Using the ATB Horse Appaloosa (purebred) for a character. They state they are consider themselves the most native of all American purebreds, and usually think of themselves as members of Native American Tribes. Would you allow them to take any Native American OCC from Spirit West?
I'm thinking yes as long as they don't possess any Animal Psionics, which allows them to connect to their spirit animal, which would be a horse 90% of the time. But how would other DMs handle this combination?

Reminds me of the old tv cartoon BraveStarr. Not quite the same as the mutant horse was a deputy, but could still be tapped for inspiration.

Re: Mutant Horses and Native Americans
Great idea.... Interesting/fascinating how in RL a non-native animal became such an essential part of the Native Peoples of North America.
But when you look at it, in Europe/Asia, it took millennia for the horse culture to build up, horsemanship evolving as suitable mounts were bred.
Fast-forward, and you have an essentially Paleolithic culture getting domesticated(then having the opportunity to go feral) equine stock dumped in their backyard and in a much shorter timeframe learning, either through observing Europeans or trial and error, the advantages of having an ideal riding animal at their beck and call.
Can you think of the American West without horses? Native Americans of the Great Plains without their trusty mounts?
Nope.

Re: Mutant Horses and Native Americans
I find it better to think of the Spirit West classes as more an expression of culture than a consequence of inherent spirit potential. There are species in D-Bees of North America capable of taking Shaman OCCs, and they don't make mention of stuff like spirit animals, which I'd consider forgoing in this situation. As for animal psionics, I could see maybe not mixing that with those classes which themselves have psionic powers, but it jiving with those like Elemental Shaman that don't.

Re: Mutant Horses and Native Americans
I'd allow it, insofar as I'd allow anything from Spirit West.

I'd allow it with a good backstory. Though I haven't read Spirit West in a long time so I am not sure which classes I'd allow or not. I recall the shamans are all pretty okay.MethosDarkblade wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 2:01 am Got a question for y'all
