Sharpshooter WP Question
I'm looking at the Sharpshooter WP skills detailed in the New West book, and I'm trying to figure out the usefulness of the all the skill bonuses based off of the character's PP (sharpshooter aimed shot, called shot, and quick draw). I thought it would be fun creating a Gunslinger type character that specialized in gunfighting, but what are the chances that your going to roll a character that has a high enough PP to really take advantage of all of those bonuses? Sure, if your a Juicer you can get your PP up pretty high, but none of the new OCC's in the New West book have any PP attribute bonuses added during character creation like the Juicer does. This wouldn't be so bad if the characters in the book that automatically get all of these sharpshooter WP's didn't get shorted so severely on their number of 'other' skills. Am I missing something here? An honestly rolled Gunfighter or Gunslinger with a PP below 18 or 20 seems to get pretty shafted.

No you aren't missing anything. Characters do get pretty shafted on bonuses with those OCCs without a good PP score and the best work around I can think of is getting augmented via bionics to get the right PP score.

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
In short: your right.
But think of it this way... If a person has an average PB then they probably should not pursue acting. If a person has an average PS then they probably should not pursue professional football. And if a person has an average PP then they probably should not pursue gunslinging.

Gunslingers be jealous of Tattooed Archers getting PP-based sharpshooter bonuses with the bow on top of the normal PP bonuses archers already get.

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
One more question: The Gunfighter OCC states that he gets WP Paired Weapons: Pistol/Revolver. I'd like to think that the intent of this was to include ENERGY pistols, but it doesn't really say it explicitly. Does anyone know of any official stand on this? It would seem silly that you could fire two recoiling projectile guns simultaneously at a target but NOT be able to do so with two recoil-less energy pistols.

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
They differentiate between Energy Weapons and Solid Projectile weapons, and for a reason. Not every rifle operates the same. Plus, it isn't just about accuracy, it's about clearing jams and maintaining the weapon.

They do work very differently. However, given a full reading of what has half bonus's or no bonus's, i'm inclined to think it was just an oversight.
However, if if that's true, Gunfighters are the only OCC to get Sharpshooting with Energy Rifles and can One-hand them like rambo. Given this is the only OCC in the game able to do this, why one would want to use Energy Pistols instead of taking advantage of their unique ability is beyond me. Get the best energy rifle you can and be better with it than any other class could possibly be--and do it with one hand!

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
I think the intent of it was to do some action like end of True Grit where Rooster guides his horse with his knees and one hands repeating rifle with his six-shooter in the other hand.
Granted, that doesn't stop you from using rifles in each hand, but I think that's likely what they were invisoning.

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
I can't, it's not just about the weight, it's about being able to fit your bulky fingers in those tiny little holes. Clearly they need both hands to stabilize it when holding it in an awkward way.

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
Depending on the rifle, you could have it modified. Most GM's would just increase the initial cost of the weapon by a small amount.

For the record, the paired weapons only applies to revolvers and (energy?) pistols. Rifles are not mentioned as a possibility.

T-archers get jealous of Gunslingers fighting with Wilk's pulse rifle in each hand and their targets getting a massive dodge penalty.

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
You still get +1 APM...that alone might be worth the skill, especially in combination with the other ways of doing it.

It still has benefits but really if you roll average PP probably best to pick a different OCC they used to call gunslingers the quick and the dead for a reason.

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
I agree! Just pointing out that even the not-so-quick can contribute to a group if their great dream is being a gunsligner. Not the smartest thing to do...but if they got their heart set on it, we're just playing a game. Ya know?

Re: Sharpshooter WP Question
A Gunslinger with an average PP would just have to adjust his approach to things. Obviously quick-draw contests are out, so perhaps he describes himself as an "expert Pistoler" instead of a Gunslinger. He's still quite deadly with pistols but he consciously avoids the traditional "middle of the street" showdown. More like a merc with a pistol specialty.

The Gunfighter has a bit easier time with lack luster PP they just switch more towards sharp shooter/sniper. Gunslingers have a bit harder time because they generally are going to be at shorter ranges where the fast draw is more important.
