WordPerfect? Really?

Just skimmed the submission guidelines, is Palladium really using WordPerfect for its preferred file format? I'm just kind of surprised is all.

I know people (especially my mother) that prefer that program over Word. I don't really understand it since both can convert files back and forth.

My mom was a teacher and she had to keep her old appleworks programs because that was what all her grade keeping was set up for, and the new programs were not backwards compatible.

So it is understandable that PB would want the submission files in "what they are set up for". It does save them time and money from having to 1st buy, then 2nd having to figure out how to do what they want all over again every other year with each "the latest" new word processing program that comes out.

This goes with the old adage "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

Considering most businesses insist on using files that are Word compatible (maybe printing companies?) it is a surprise they have not switched.

keep in mind the submission guidelines have not been updated in years, since overall they haven't changed much. palladium may not use Wordperfect any more, but it isn't hard to put stuff into an older format that is more universal. (personally i use rich text for submissions, since it is readable by just about everything.)

Last time I talked to Wayne they said nothing about using Word Perfect anymore. I think Word
is the new standard.

Actually that's how I submitted my stuff for Rifter #11; hardcopy print and a 3.5" 1.44 meg floppy disk submitted via smail-mail. But even back then they accepted Word 97 formatted documents. Now days I use Word 2007 and send it in via e-mail.

But smoke signals might work too. Never know till ya try!

Me too. I've also provided things in .doc and never had a problem.

OpenOffice seems preferable to make submitting accessible to as wide a variety of contributors as possible.
