The general idea would be that the whole area is inpassable, but maybe there is a way in, just too small to be shown on such a map. Mountains often have very close gaps in them, that don't show on large scale maps.
Just go with what you need, do you really want your players to make it in.
Then, let them find a gap.
If not then, no gap...
