Or traveling the universe in order to insult every living creature in that universe.

Sure it might take a couple billion years of field work, but hey, what else were you doing.
(The line from the musical Big River comes to mind "I bet you could teach a hog to smoke a cigarette. Might take a while, but heck. What's time to a hog.)

This is the motivation behind the immortal I'm creating (sort of). His goal is to make sure that everyone's story is remembered and that no one is forgotten. There may be things that happened before his birth that he'll have to research into, but as pointed out he's got the time.

In relation to this goal, is there a super power/spell/psionic ability that let's you steal memories (more like copy/paste than cut/paste)? That's one way to collect the stories of those unable to communicate or remember due to age/illness.

Is he doing it in alphabetical order?
“No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once, we will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.”

Jack Chalker covered a lot of this territory in the Well World series, with the main protagonist being immortal and likely billions of years old (he doesnt remember).

It's possible that in Nathan Brazil's case, he was operating under a geis(being tied to the computer system underlying reality) that prevented him from seeking his own destruction(at least while he was outside the Well).
That's one of the fan suggestions of what was keeping Setsuna Meioh/Sailor Pluto going....an implanted directive to restore the Silver Millennium.

Kage Baker's novels of the Company is also a fun take on artificial immortals, though they had missions, and a deadline(the time in the future past which all communication cross-time effectively STOPPED for no reason).

Immortals can keep going with grandiose schemes(like carving an entire planet into a representation of their face), can be cursed/compelled to keep going, or can be forced to keep going to overcome the curse of their immortality, keeping them active.

I had an immortal PC who had been kidnapped back in time by aliens who wanted to know if they still existed in the future. When the PC(a mortal at the time) professed that he only knew of humanity being around, the aliens made him immortal in order to kill humanity(who were at that time just discovering fire). It took several centuries, but the PC killed the aliens instead, then waited around lurking in the outer solar system until the time he was kidnapped, so as to avoid a temporal paradox, then began trying to sneak back into his old life, and from there work to uplift Humanity with the technology he'd saved from the ancient aliens.

To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"
