how to randomly make a fleet
is there a way to made a random fleet. I have most of the old books, and I was wondering if anyone had a way to make a fleet of zentraedi, or Masters. I was thinking about have a fleet action between Zentraedi fleet. just because. any help would be great.

Re: how to randomly make a fleet
no official way. easiest way to do it yourself is to just turn a list of the ship into a table then rolling on it however many times you want.
so like, for the zentraedi, you have the following ships (only 2 have been given stats in the shadow chronicles RPG though)
Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Class Fleet Flagship
Thurverl-Salan Class Heavy Destroyer
Queadol-Magdomilla Class Fleet Command Cruiser
Quiltra-Queleual Class Fleet Carrier
Rin-Nadow Gun Destroyer
Tou-Redir Patrol Frigate
the fast and rough way is to just assign these 1 through 6 and roll a D6. but some of these are supposed to be more rare than others (the flagship for example) so you might want to do a 2D6, or a turn it into a percent system. you might also want to adjust the order of the entries so that the rarer items are in the less common results (average on a 2D6 for example is 7, so you want the rarer stuff to be closer to 2's and 12's, and common stuff in the middle. you can also give common stuff more chances of getting a result)
for example; a 2D6 chart.
2 - Queadol-Magdomilla Class Fleet Command Cruiser
3, 4 - Thurverl-Salan Class Heavy Destroyer
5, 6, 7 - Tou-Redir Patrol Frigate
8, 9 -Rin-Nadow Gun Destroyer
10, 11 - Quiltra-Queleual Class Fleet Carrier
12 - Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Class Fleet Flagship
you can use the same approach for a % table, which would give a bit more fine control over the results, but basically works the same way.
if you don't know how big of a fleet you want, just roll dice for the total, and pick the type of dice that feels right. so if you want a big fleet maybe roll a few D100's, for a small one maybe a couple D6's or D10's, etc.

i have stats from RPG book 3 for
Nupetiet-Vergnitzs Class Fleet Flagship
Thurverl-Salan Class Heavy Destroyer
Queadol-Magdomilla Class Fleet Command Cruiser
Quiltra-Queleual Class Fleet Carrier
and Salan scout ship
but not the these two
Rin-Nadow Gun Destroyer
Tou-Redir Patrol Frigate

Re: how to randomly make a fleet
the patrol frigate was called the 'salan class scout' in 1st ed.
and the Gun destroyer sadly didn't see stats.. it was the reflex cannon armed ship khyron used to attack the SDF-1. we see a ton of them in the grand fleet, but it seems ot have slipped people's minds.

Re: how to randomly make a fleet
I'm working on a Random Roll charts post for creating Robotech Space Pirates, with Zentraedi being a major component...I believe I posted a partial segment here some time ago, but I wasn't sure how specific I could be for fear of tripping the 'no conversions' policy. In any case, the early snippet was designed for a point creation system, while I've since leaned towards Random Roll.

Yeah even HG doesn't acknowledge the Rin Nadow on their site

Nothing official, no... the ship-to-ship combat rules always felt like a bit of an afterthought in the RPG, IMO.
An accurate-to-animation random fleet generation table would be a real tall order for the RPG, considering how enormous fleets can get in the animation. The smallest fleet seen in the animation, if you don't count the troop transports, was the 2nd ERF fleet at the start of [MOSPEADA/the New Generation] with 50 ships in total[1]. If you do count the shuttles, the smallest fleet was the 135 ships that the [UN Spacy/RDF] had c. Ep27[2]. Other fleets are noted as being anywhere from 396 ships[3], 1,213 ships[4]. 1 million ships[5], or 4,795,122 ships[6].
I have a couple fleet generation tables I've used, but mostly they're for human fleets in the Macross universe. They usually build on ratios of ships. I'd say roll X many D20s to set the maximum number of capital ships you're looking to have, and break it down by percentages. The ratios I use for Zentradi are:
75% Picket Patrol (Scout) ships
12.5% Thuverl Salan-class battleships
7.5% Quiltra Queleual-class carriers
5% Medium-Scale Gunboat
My habit is to assign 2 picket ships as escorts for every battleship, and 4 for every carrier and gunboat. A default group of ~40 ships will have 30 escorts, 5 battleships, 3 carriers, and 2 gunboats. For any fleet that has more than one group of 40 ships, add a Queadol Magdomilla-class command ship for every 80-100 ships and a Nupetiet Vergnitz-class for every 400 ships.
(The one I actually use is more complex, but that's because it accounts for several classes of ship that appeared in Macross sequels.)
1. Per the animation production materials, that fleet was 10 Ikazuchi-class carriers, 40 Garfish-class escorts, 160 Horizont-class descent shuttles, and 200 independently flying Legioss+TLEAD (RT: Alpha+Beta) combiners.
2. 137 in Robotech, presumably... since they had two more ARMD-class ships than the OSM did. 128 Oberth-class space destroyers, either 6 or 8 ARMD-class space carriers, and 1 Macross-class SDF.
3. The UEEF fleet in Shadow Chronicles... 30 [i]Ikazuchi-class carriers, 360 Garfish-class escorts, 5 Shimakaze-class escorts, and 1 Izumo-class SDF.
4. Britai's/Breetai's branch fleet in the original Macross.
5. Breetai's upgraded fleet in Robotech.
6. Boddole Zer's/Dolza's fleet.

Re: how to randomly make a fleet
Just go with a classic WWI Fleet.
3-4 ships per division
3-4 divisions per squadron
3-4 squadrons per fleet/naval task group.
Khyron's 7th mechanized space division had 23 ships IIRC.
