Robotech Improbables, Impossibles, and Just Plain Weirds....

Unread post by taalismn »

Alternate Universes...

Okay, we've tackled alternate scenarios like
1) What if the Masters Won the Second Robotech War?
2) What if the Invid Arrived Early?
3) What if the Zentraedi Still Lost But Rendered Earth Uninhabitable?
4) What if Lynn Minmei Joined the Military?

Just to stir up more thought, what other off-the-wall scenarios have you created out there or would have liked to have seen? And where might they have taken the Robotech universe?

I'll toss out a few;

1) What if Rick Hunter HAD rescued TR Edwards from Alaska Base?
2) What if the Zentraedi and the Invid actually joined forces?(and what might it take to create this unlikely union?)
3) What if the Karbarreans had stumbled across Optera and the secrets of creating Protoculture before the Tiroleans could hit the planet?
4) What if Perytonian magic was REAL, and they'd openned up a mystic can of worms?
5) What if a ship from, say, the Three Galaxies, had crashed on Earth BEFORE the SDF-1 arrived?

What if the SDF-1 crash was caused by a near-collision with another alien vessel, a strange red ship with the letters "RED DWARF" painted on the hull?

What if the SDF-1's pursuers were not the Zentraedi, but the Daleks?

What if Roy Fokker did not die from his wound?

Hmmm...Fokker's luck eventually would have given out and he'd have fgotten so badly wounded that Gloval would be forced to ground him for medical reasons...forcing Rick into top spot with his 'Big Brother' as CAG...The Hunter-Hayes relationship would have still gone as prolonged as before, not helped(or hindered) any by Fokker's trying to mediate between them and occasionally kicking Rick's behind for being such an ass....I don't see him having a large impact on the Rain of Death or the aftermath...there's only so much one can do against millions of Zentraedi after all, though his experienced leadership might save a few lives in the short run...As good as Fokker is, he lacks the youthful dynamicism of Rick Hunter(who tends to fall into tight spots with more frequency than anyone else0, so Fokker wouldn't likely be caught up in the same dramatic moments as Rick and Lisa find themselves in....and the effects of his survival likely wouldn't show a dramatic turn from canon except in the long run, when his role as an RDF high officer might prove a foil for Leonard...
His survival might also be a brake on Rick Hunter's rise to the high command ranks...ESPECIALLY if Fokker survived Khyron's kamikaze attack on the SDF-1&2...so command of the SDF-3 might well fall to somebody else(Fokker, himself, for instance).

BUT...Fokker's survival might well also have stopped Edwards in his tracks...since, knowing TR as he did, Fokker would be most reluctant to allow Edwards anywhere NEAR the SDF-3...and would find a convemient excuse to weld the guy into a deep-decks storeroom if he absolutely HAD to take the guy aboard...
The whole Edwards-Hunter conflict aboard the Pioneer expedition would instead become an Edwards-Fokker conflict, likely with Edwards taking measures to have Rick and/or Lisa have 'accidents' as a means of getting at Fokker----and crying 'favoritism' in any Fokker decision concerning them...

What if the SDF-1's fold drive didn't vanish during the accidental fold to near Pluto orbit, and it had only been disabled for a period of time? (or just needed days or weeks between limited short range folds, and otherwise meaning some connections didn't go poof, thus allowing the main gun to fire in ship mode)

What if the SDF-1 folded successful at first, ending up near the moon? (still with a chunk of ocean and the island, of course)

What if the SDF-1's barrier simply "shut down" and didn't overload and wipe out a large area?

What if the SDF-1 didn't take Macross island with it when it folded?

What if the SDF-1 made a safer "crash landing" and was much more intact?

What if the Zor that was killed was a clone made by Zor (just in case, as a decoy, whatever) and the real Zor was in stasis deep inside of the SDF-1, just to wake up or be found at a later time? (perhaps after they had the rebuilt SDF-1 try to fold for the first time)

What if Khyron and Azonia ended up having a child (or Azonia otherwise getting pregnant), causing a personality shift in Khyron and/or Azonia and the suicide attack on the SDF-1&2 never got done?

What if a few human looking Invid lived on Earth, working with humans, and otherwise keeping the other Invid at bay so long as people behaved? (toss in people being required to "hand over" protoculture cells before they are "burned out", perhaps exchanging them for fresh ones)

Heck, what if a human looking Invid somehow became a Bio-Maintenance Engineer (her CO knowing they was Invid and trusted them because they had proved themselves as something other than mindless killers, perhaps by saving human lives) and actually helped the REF with their protoculture problems and assisted with dealing with the forces of the Reagent?

What if someplaces on Earth had humans living in peace with the Invid somehow?
A place with the humans willingly helping out the Invid in some ways (helping with raising the FoL, for example, helping people to utilize clean power other than protoculture, etc), and the Invid offering humans assistance in some ways (like Troopers helping with heavy labor, offering protoculture cells to those they trust, keeping towns safe from human bandits, etc)

Well I doubt the Allies and Axies power would have called a cease fire. Japan and the U.S. would have made a beeline to occupy the Macross Island.

Just who, would depend on what stage the war was in when the visitor arrived.

Well Another Alt is if the Zentraedi Captured the SDF-1 would Dolza given up the last protoculture matrix to the Masters? I assumed that he wouldnt and used it as a bargaining chip against the Masters. Figured the Earth would have to ally with what ever Robotech Masters Forces left and did a type of guerilla warfare against the new Imperial Zentraedi Armada :)
For the Glory of the Zentraedi and Khyron!!

There would eventually be a menage a troi!

The Sterlings are out walking little Dana about the local park when they pass three people on a park bench...
Lisa Hayes and Lynn Minmei, both sporting various bandages, splints, and bruises...between them is a man, virtually mummified in a full-body cast(he's supported on a hand cart)...
Max: "Hi, Rick! Chose the wrong moment to step out onto your front step, again, eh?"
Rick: "mmmm...mmmm...mmmm"
Miriya: "Sorry to hear it....But when we walked by your house, it looked like they almost had the front wall replaced already!"
Rick: "mmmhmmm...mhm-mmmm"
Max: "I agree...well, at least Min and Lisa have agreed not to use explosives on each other again! That's a plus!"
(Minmei and Lisa look chagrined)

then we would have a very different series....... much like the very nonsensical Macross 7.

"KYLE!!!! YOU DRUNKEN LOUT!!!!!"(SMASH!)
or....
"KYLE!!! GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY WOMAN!!!!"(BLAM!)

Especially if combined with the Pantheon scenario....Lisa Hayes, daughter of Zeus....

It will be free for all slugfest. Much like in New Gen saga, Invid would simply folded onto SDF-1 ruins & nestled there, Masters & Humans caught off-guard, but the war has to go on. As Invid didn't wanna share their precious FoL & protoculture supplies plus Masters is their sworn enemy, Masters also didn't have any intention doing so given Invid is their archnemesis & protoculture is desperately needed to rebuilt Robotech Imperium. Earth will be a new battleground for both Masters & Invid, & we the humans, are caught in the middle of epic war.

He would manipulate UEG High Command much like he duped the Masters for personal gains. He would attempt to established Flower of Life orchards on Earth & secretly contacting his former lover, Invid Regess to come & join him to rule planet Earth together & carved their new Empire.

What if Khyron and Azonia ended up having a child (or Azonia otherwise getting pregnant), causing a personality shift in Khyron and/or Azonia and the suicide attack on the SDF-1&2 never got done?

There's already the Invid-ran slave camps situated near FoL orchards. Invid even kept some town safe from bandits especially Norristown & Soldiertown, provided human leadership become Invid stooges.

That's one possibility....
Another might be...Edwards, in a psychotic fit of gratitude, decided to become Rick's new 'Big Brother'...looking out for him in the way Edwards is used to, and that he feels Hunter is incapable of, namely bending arms and silencing dissent...so Lynn Kyle still ends up getting shot dead for 'dissing the guy who pulled me out of hell'. :demon:
Now the problem is Admiral HUnter has a guy who's the equivalent of a rabid Cujo trying to show him what 'power is all about!'.

They would become famous politician, secretly taking over UEG High Command & Earth political structure along with its Robotech military. Then they'll call dear Mother to come back.

The simulagent will betray REF at the behest of Invid Regent & sheltered by TR EDwards.

What if someplaces on Earth had humans living in peace with the Invid somehow?

Provided the Invid keep their ancestry a secret.

There's already the Invid-ran slave camps situated near FoL orchards. Invid even kept some town safe from bandits especially Norristown & Soldiertown, provided human leadership become Invid stooges.

Okay, for starters, can we stop assuming all human type Invid are Corg rip-offs? They can be stuff like Abberant (sense of honor) or Anarchist (selfish, not crazy or kill crazed)
As has been displayed by Marlene/Ariel and Sera, and in a way, the Regis, the Invid are not just cold hearted, devious, manipulating killers, that they can be understanding and adapt in various ways other than just shooting/ripping apart/blowng up/betraying/back stabbing something.

The human like Invid are actually capable of being independent and not part of the whole 'one mind' thing (again, as has been observed occuring with Marlene/Ariel and Sera).
The focus during the Invid Invasion part of RT was on one little group of aventurers/freedom fighters, and they had 2, count them, 2, human like invid that appeared to have come to like/understand humans in possitive ways... To me, that says that there is a chance that some human like invid, if interacting with the right people, could actually have similar results, with a human like Invid coming to do more than just observe/spy on people.

Toss in that if the Invid sent some forces back to keep growing the FoL, that the human like Invid would possibly be the ones in command of some of the hives while the Regies is off planet, so there is a chance that a "nice" human like Invid living peacefully in a town. That being be a reason for Invid protecting the town, not because of Invid sympathizers, but because the local Royal Command Battloid pilot in charge of things in the local area wants to keep their "human friends" safe.
(might have a possitive effect if the people find out someone is a human like Invid that was trying to keep them safe and let them otherwise let them be free).

That's the overall basis for my what if stuff dealing with human like Invid, of the ones that weren't miscreant or had become more like Marlene/Ariel and Sera.

And on the angle of them being independent and being created by the Regies, why in the heck would they even bother to have anything to do with the Regent?
I would see the Regent wanting to kill a human looking Invid just because they are Invid that look like humans and not like Invid... (and perhaps also because they are more or less on the side of the Regies)

Back to the other stuff relating to my SDF-1 what if stuff...

How could the Zentraedi recover the SDF-1 if they wasted it?

If the SDF-1 ended up near pluto with the fold drive intact, why would they fold back ASAP? They probably wouldn't want to chance it considering they wanted to make a jump a few hundred thousand miles away to behind the moon, and missed their target by at least few billion miles...

Why would the SDF-1 and SDF-2 not getting blown up prevent there from being an SDF-3? There's an SDF-4 (the really big ship at the end of the Invid Invasion), and it was made even though the SDF-3 was around the time it was built... One does not simply cancel or otherwise stop building bigger/better ships because because earlier ones weren't blown to bits. I would see the SDF-3 getting built anyways, just because of the mission it was built for... and because it is bigger, more heavilly armed in a few ways, and much more better designed to take on the Robotech Masters than the SDF-1 or 2 might be capable of.

As for the SDF-1 and a "safer landing", I meant "not a total burtn wreck plowed into the ground that needs major rebuilding"... I mean land in a way that left it a bit more intact (which I think would indicate battle damage from being chased by the Zentraedi would be more evident, not less...)

How could the Zentraedi recover the SDf-1 if they wasted it?
Well, if the SDF-1 HAD been destroyed, the rest of the series wouldn't have existed...likely the Zentraedi would have shuffled their feet while trying to come up with a way to explain to the Masters their big 'Oops!' before settling on a convenient scapegoat...the Micronians ...Khyron, to deflect attention from the fact that it was HIS boneheadedness that cost them the surprise, immediately leads the charge against the Micronians who 'used a self-destruct device' to cheat the Zentraedi of the prize, and goes after sources of Reflex energy on Earth...The UEG command, congratulating themselves on having gotten rid of the big target called the SDF-1, suddenly find the Botaru banging on the surface doors of Alaska Base...
Ultimately, after blowing up most of Earth's major cities in spite, the bulk of Breetai's fleet leaves, leaving behind Khyron's troops to sift through the wreckage for SOMETHING to show for all their trouble...and maybe get zapped by any local resistance, so Breetai doesn't have to dirty his hands throttling the snot himself...

Eventually, the Masters do get around to visiting Earth to see for themselves that the Matrix is lost, finding an Earth that's become a battleground between outraged UEG forces and an increasingly insane Khyron...

And then the Invid come, seeking revenge, but finding no Flowers...but the Masters sitting around without power...

What if the Zentraedi, Masters and Invid actually looked like aliens, instead of humans with blue hair?

What if they new back in the 80s, that to open a worm hole, you need the energy of a Jupiter sized planet, to vaporize in an anti-matter explosion?

You know what happens when a large object, such as the SDF-1, crashes into Earth from the velocities needed for space travel crashes into Earth? A very large and bright explosion followed by a nuclear winter and a mass extinction. What if that happened?

What if the SDF-1 had crashed near Chi-Town of Rifts earth and the CS acquired Robotechnology?

I've always had the concept that the Robotech wars took place before the golden age. (don't have Chaos Earth, but I came up with concept back in 1997)

Thus instead of F-14's being found/used by the CS they would be VF-1's, and other nations too would have transformable mecha.

I think there is even a cannon transformable sub, that looks a lot like the LRV-588 from Strike Force. (don't have the German books).

It's in either in Mindwerks or Rifts Undersea, but it does indeed look like a Veritech fighter.

It would remain a purely theoretical item of little practical interest, as the technology to produce enough AM for such an explosion just wasn't(and still isn't) around....Like knowing the process to produce a singularity, or self-sustaining nuclear fusion...sure, the knowledge is there, but the technology isn't, and even if we knew HOW to produce a wormhole, would we be able to control where it came out? Considering the problems we have just moving beyond the Moon with any sort of manned mission, any effort to exploit wormhole technology would be put on hold until advances in technology made it convenient, or the technology dropped into our laps(like a StarGate or SDF with FTL capability).

Well, it doesn't matter how much money they earn at NASA if there isn't much money left to do other stuff... probably why they don't do much work, because there probably isn't much money left for them to work with after they get their paychecks.

They are probably going to need the International Space Station just to make it a whole lot stage a mission to mars.

You're looking at a trip of a half year just to get there, which means you are going to need enough fuel and supplies to get there, enough fuel and supplies during the stay there, and enough fuel and supplies to get back, and extra fuel and supplies just in case problems cause the mission to take longer than expected...
Then there are the effects of being in space for long periods of time, what you are supposed to do with an emergency situation when you are weeks or months away from any hospital, not to mention needing to carry a nice supply of spare parts, some sort of power source in addition to solar power...

Good thing the SDF-1 was equipped with sub-light drives and a city worth of supplies...

On the remark of the NGR in Rifts having the transformable sub, it's in Rifts Underseas, p 199.
Which makes me think...
Isn't the NGR also working on anti-grav tech? Not to mention their shield tech...

Hmm... didn't the SDF-1 have it's anti-grav system go on vacation during their initial attempt to take off? I wonder if an anti-grav module, a chunk of the system which they made the pin point barriers with and maybe some mecha or tech for the VFs got blasted off into another dimension... say popping in the area of Germany when the Rifts hit or by a rift at some time after the Rifts came...

The anti-gravity systems pulled away from the SDF-1 right through the outer hull and floated away on their own.

So that is where the fold system ended up, somewhere in Germany (NGR).

Well, remember, within limits, the Invid ARE polymorphic and psionic....The Regis could just screw with Zor's mind while incorporating his genetic material into a new Invid form...We'd have a Stage Fiver and true Human-Invid hybrid long before the New Generation arc....

Exactly....

Ok, here's something similar that's been floating in my head...
human-invid hybrids resulting of relationships between humans and human form Invid...

End up with something that looks like a human but has skin that looks like that of a regular invid and with dark eyes.... but otherwise looks human...
Although I wonder what color blood might be if it where a mix of red and green...
(not to mention wondering what the human parent might think if they weren't aware they were dating or married to an alien...)

Still makes me think of the odd idea of some Invid living in pease with humans... and if such cross-breeds did occur somehow, that would really make things interesting if those little peaceful communities ran into either regular Invid, Invid of the Regent, or your typical Invid hating humans...

Literal bluebloods?

One thing's for sure...between Zor's purple hair and the Regis's Invid psychiology, their kid could have some really interesting looks...provided follicle-wize he doesn't take after Mom...(or, since we're discussing AUs here, why shouldn't the Regis grow hair in addition to a humanoid shape? I mean, maybe she went with the bald look to keep from TOTALLY alienating the grand slug Regent, but if the bun's already out of the oven, why not completely diss him?)

Hmmm...A Zor/Regis offspring could add a new dynamic to the whole Regis/Regent tete-a-tete, especially if JUnior proves better leader material than the bull-ox Regent....

Cue Musika and her sisters (or any other group of 3 sisters that are Mistresses of the Cosmic Harp) showing up, really angry, all three with kids (or expecting kids), along with a few Terminators escorting them... one of which is wearing a tie (as in, wearing Terminator armor with a clip on/stick on tie on the armor) and carrying a briefcase instead of a gun...

WOW I never thought of all of this...
What if in the Regis' fractured and emotionally unstable mind that human/stage 5 invid cross-breeds were her intentional idea for a stage 6?

If you think about it...its like what the king said in braveheart "the problem with Scottland is that it's full of Scotts!" then he enacted prima nocte to breed them out...
What if the Regis ultimately wanted a smiliar outcome, and made the stage 5's look like humans and have a range of emotion for this purpose?
End result is you end up with a planet that grows the flower of life AND is populated with her children. This would work even better if the "hive mind" was a dominant trait passed by the invid parent.

The Japanese played a similar game with the royal genetics and lineage...surround the Emperor with your own family amd make sure successive generations of leaders marry only your family(and its related lines) and eventually you usurp the entire Imperial bloodline...

The 'Hive Mind' trait might be better expressed as a higher potential for a psychic link similar that between twins...that gradually strengthens into a mutual consensus...combine it with a hankering for Flower of Life to promote even more powerful changes...

Expand the concept enough and the Invid bloodline eventually assimilates even Zentraedi bloodlines...THAT would be an adapative mechanosm...absorbing the genetics of your most persistant and successful enemies....

Than the Sage among his Books,
For all the Empires and Kingdoms,
The Armies and Works that you hold Dear,
Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

*What if the Invid found Earth shortly after the Rain of Death...and offered to help Earth rebuild?

1: I would say the would be more inclined to blast the heck out of each other's forces more often.

2: With the RDF using Protoculture, the Invid might not be very friendly, but at least the REF wouldn't be in play yet, so cool heads might prevail since the RDF wouldn't have much to offer resistance with...

Although it comes to question of why the Invid would come to Earth early...
But that could be easy, perhaps some were tailing Dolza's fortress, reported back that the Zentraedi just got their butts handed to them by a force of other Zentraedi and others who stood against the will of the RT Masters.

That could peak the Regis' interest enough to make a "peaceful" visit, perhaps first asking for a good deal of the "protoculture matrix" on the SDF-1... (just 1% of it is probably more than enough for the RDF for a long time) but if the Regis found out that Earth might grow the FoL, and discovered it would grow on Earth, then I could see a sort of treaty of sorts Perhaps allowing the RDF to still use protoculture, so long as their use is restricted to no more than a certain percentage of their growing output of FoL. Perhaps also helping Earth to develop other alternative power sources, such as true fusion tech, or perhaps some adaptation of how Invid generate power.

Which could lead to the formation of the REF with the Invid being the first non-human race to become members... which could have led to a combination of REF and Invid force attacking the RT Masters homeworld...

And they arrive at Tyrol and find some of the Masters had already left to try and find Dolza and his missing fleet. The Masters' fleet arrives at Earth just to run into a small RDF space force along with a few ships of the newer fleet from the SC era, both of which are quickly surprised to see the Masters' ships attacked by ton of really ticked off Invid swarming like killer bees. The Earth forces quickly find out it is the Masters who showed up, they quickly join the attack and throw everything they have at the Masters, who already got their hands full.
Perhaps the Stage 5 Invid were already around by this time, due to the Invid having been on Earth for a good decade or so.

Hmm... SDF-3 carrying Invid in addition to its other stuff...
My "what ifs" of Stage 5's being useful members of the REF would be applicable in this situation... so would the whole thing of Invid and Humans living and working together in peace... although good old fashioned human stupidity, er, bigotry and prejudice, could cause some problems, hate crimes, etc, requiring the formation of a true multi-racial law enforcement group...

I think I got to write this stuff down in my notes... :D
