A Shifter who wants to return D-Bees who want to go home

Unread post by darthauthor »

A D-bee got caught in a Rift and appeared on Rifts Earth.

Other D-Bees stuck on Rifts Earth want to return home to be safe from the CS and beings that would prey upon or enslave them.

A principled Shifter wants to help them.

How can a Shifter open a rift to a the D-Bess home dimension if the Shifter has never been their before?

Is there no way?

If the D-bee mind bonded with the shifter would the Shifter know enough to find the B-bees dimension?

Please advise

If the d-bees remember where they exited the Rift, the Shifter might try to Re-open Gateway, which opens the rift to the last place it opened up to/from. This only works though if that particular rift only connects two places, Earth and the d-bees' homeworld. Otherwise, he'd be randomly opening the rift, scouting out what lay behind it, teleporting back home if it wasn't what he was looking for, and trying again.
If the Shifter has an Alien Intelligence patron, he might try contacting it for assistance. If the patron being has a greater knowledge of the Megaverse, it MIGHT know where the d-bees hail from and can provide an 'address' for the Shifter to try.

If the d-bees have a patron god or goddess that really exists(isn't just a figment of their imaginations), they might try praying for assistance, with the specific goal of the deity providing the Shifter with coordinates.

That's a really good answer.

Thank you!

I intended for the adventure to be in Germany. Their policy, as I remember it, is to deport D-bees from their borders unless they are human looking. It would seem theit people have not forgotten their history but have learned from it. This policy has led many D-bees to live just on or outside their borders which led to them fighting the gorgoyles. Something the German people have benefited from. I guess they are like a European Coalition states but with a lot less fear of magic and B-bees.

So I wrote up an adventure where a principled shifter makes trips to Germany to help people. These good will missions are intended to give people a positive impression of magic. Also, the shifter wants to assist the german government, and more importantly to him the D-bees, in the "deportation" process by giving them a choice to return to their home dimension.

I wrote up 20 categories of D=bees for being on Rifts Earth:

1. Explorers. To seek out new worlds and intelligent life (Anthropology, Archieology, etc)
2. Here on Business. Perhaps a Merchant, trader, (un)skilled labor.
3. Summoned. A magic user summoned the being to Rifts Earth and they stayed.
4. Criminal. Looking for a score
5. Scouts for otherworldy invaders (or the invaders themselves)
6. Exiles sent to Rifts Earth as a way of dumping their criminals somewhere else.
7. Run aways who NEED to get away from where they are in hopes of better world.
8. Tourist from another dimension (sight seeing, food, culture, etc)
9. Big Game Hunters
10. Accident. Caught in a Rift and has no means to get back.
11. A B-bee looking for love in another dimension.
12. Prospector looking "gold" (mine materials that are precious in their home dim).
13. Bounty Hunter looking for wanted people.
14. Scientist. Experiments in new dim (or on a test subject here). Example Gene-splicers
15. Being of magic/psychic/supernatural ability who just wants to be more powerful.
16. Student - They came to Rifts Earth to learn (an exchange student?)
17. Soldier of fortune. Came to Rifts Earth as merc in search of work or under contract.
18. Performer - They are an entertainer traveling the verse putting on shows.
19. Waste Management - Uses planet as a dump for whatever they don't want around.
20. Medical Tourist. In need of something they can't get in their dimension or they are saving credits by having it done on Rifts Earths. Think psionic or magical healing or they need an organ donor. They can't afford or never hear of Atlantis and the Splugth's bio wizardary or successful cloning.

So I wrote up D-bee characters. Still trying to figure how the characters come accross them. Like, should a german official escort them in a prison to open a Rift. The only short coming I figured was how would a Shifter know which dimension to open a Rift too? Unless they have been there before a Shifter would not.

I mean, if you are a D-bee your arriving on Rifts Earth might feel like you beamed down from the star ship enterprise. If a shifter is a transporter which star ship in orbit (infinite dimensions) do they transport them inside?

Palladium is incredibly vague on how shifters find the megaversal addresses for various dimensions, unfortunately.

I interpret the vagueness to be permission to invent our own interpretation of how they do it.

In my mind, the question is not if they can figure out a dimenstion from a thing or person who has been there but consistence within "the rules." So if the shifter can Rift a D-Bee back to a home dimension he has never been to then every Shifter can or has the potential to do so. If a Shifter can't, then no Shifter can. And if there is an exception then that exception should be an exception for everyone else to or explain why that one shifter or one time they did it is the exception. For Example, only on a ley line nexus or during a solar eclipse. Maybe it has something to do with their Aura. They have to read their Aura while they are searching or caster the open a rift spell thru the beings aura.

I really like one of the other contributors replies that a shifter could call upon an Alien Intelligence they have made a pack with. It is the most intelligent answer I come across and never thought of myself.
