Best Movies for Research
What movies do you watch to get in the Rifts mood or look for research?
Do you go to "Mad Max", "Matrix", or "Walking Dead"? "Pacific Rim", "Constantine", and "The Rocketeer" are always good for visuals.
I wrote a couple short stories about a Coalition soldier who always dreamed about being in the middle of something bigger, kind of a "Walter Mitty" personae.
I usually stay away from animated and anime.

So what if I don’t know what apocalypse means? It’s not the end of the world!

'Tankgirl's' dumb and ditzy, but it's got outrageous hardware pieced together from old pre-disaster stuff, post-apocalyptic society, and it's got mutants, so...yeah, Rifts-grist.

"Trouble rather the Tiger in his Lair,
Than the Sage among his Books,
For all the Empires and Kingdoms,
The Armies and Works that you hold Dear,
Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

More ATB, but not terrible for Rifts either.
Im loving the Foes list; it's the only thing keeping me from tearing out my eyes from the dumb.

Rifts: Australia - Mad Max: Road Warrior or Fury Road
Rifts: NGR (Operation Sea Storm) - Live, Die, Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow
Rifts: Japan - Seven Samurai for Empire, Ghost in the Shell and Akira for Republic.
Rifts: New West - Magnificient Seven, Firefly and Serenity
Rifts: New Navy - The Last Ship (TV), Top Gun
Rifts: Atlantis - Stargate (TV or movie) portal travel, pyramids and symbiotes?
Rifts: England - Excalibur, Game of Thrones, Transformers: The Last Knight (the first bit anyway)
That's all I can think of for the moment.

I'm not a big anime fan, but it's obviously influenced Kevin Siembieda. I've seen a little bit of it, and some of it is alright, but it's just not really my thing.
I'd say the following movies and TV shows would be RIFTSey type entertainment. Now I don't rewatch these (I've seen most of them), but they clearly influenced Rifts quite a bit, directly or indirectly.
1980s sci-fi (and early 90s):
Mad Max: The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome
Blade Runner
Robocop
Escape from New York
The Terminator
Scanners
From Dusk til Dawn
1980s and early 90s anime:
Robotech
Fang of the Sun Dougram
Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust
Akira
1980s American cartoons:
Thundarr the Barbarian
He-Man (forget the main character and look at the world around him)
Thundercats/Silverhawks (ditto with forgetting main characters)
Spiral Zone
Bravestarr
Visionaries
TMNT
TV shows:
Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future

With the aforementioned:
Six String Samurai
Book of Eli
Escape from LA/NY
Don't really have to stick with post-apocalyptic or sci fi flicks.

Damnation Alley thanks for making me feel old OP.
If it's stupid and it works. It's not stupid
Palladium can't be given a free pass for criticism because people have a lot of emotion invested in it.
Pathfinder is good. It is not the second coming of D&D.
Surshot is absolutely right. (Kevin Seimbeda)
Enlightened Grognard
When I step out of line the mods do their jobs. I don't benefit from some sort of special protection.
