Bases, Bases, and more Bases.

Unread post by Phaze »

As a suggestion... and a query.

I would like to purchase several packages of bases for other items, like modern tanks, trucks, atmospheric aircraft, comanche helicopters, Moma's Kitchens, Cats eyes, and other fun stuff. I would like them in several different sizes: a small one (smaller than a standard size for the Destroids), many of the regular size, some of the largers ones like for the Glaug, and one or two of the largers ones for the Monster.

Is anybody else interested in something like this? And does anyone else have insight into Palladiums plans for offering bases seperate from the units?

Now, I could do what a friend of mine has done and order custom engraved bases with names and unit designations for each of his units...

You can get bases from a variety of games. I'm a fan of those offered by Wyrd, which have the sizes you're looking for (30mm (smaller than Destroids), 40mm (standard) and 50mm (Officer's Pod sized).

You can even get them in translucent colours if you want those items to stand out.

Litko-aero offers laser cut bases in a variety of sizes and shapes.. they are fairly low cost as well. though their cheapest are the wooden ones. (MDF.. basically a kind of thin plywood)

I plan on getting a number of modern armored vehicles from GHQ so as to have some modern equipment on the battle field.

I've never thought about getting bases for these vehicles......

Its really a personal preferance. It really only comes into play with HtH combat and Base to Base contact. I would consider (not officially of course) that if the base is touching the vehicle, its engaged in HtH. A vehicle with a base, just clears things up. This has been discussed on another topic.

I am putting together 5 civilians (1/300 scale arcitectual pieces) on a single 15mm clear base and calling it 1 MDC, Movement 2. I will use these for special scenarios, like "defend the retreating civilians". I tried it using glass beads...it worked but the civilians got slaughtered by a missle volley from an FPA...messy.

I thought adding cars, trucks, tanks, and other equipment to the scenario could be fun. But the bases for RRT are specific with a arc markers and a rear legend plate for identification. I wanted the bases to all be similar in nature, so I was hoping to be able to purchase the supplied bases for the box set and other units seperately to use for these extra units.

You know the more I think about it...the more I like the clear engraved stands. I may just drop the coin for those.

Well, it does more than just clear things up. A base also determines the total area that a mecha (vehicle) can use to both engage and be engaged in hand to hand, and it can block other models from passing by in close quarters.

I'd use 30mm bases for vehicles and 40mm for conventional aircraft. Still working on Infantry rules though.

Since these are real world example they do not break any conversion rules when posting. :)

Infantry

Infantry take more damage from Anti-Infantry Weapons. Normal Weapons do half damage.

EX: The bottom cannons on a Pod do 2 MDC damage and have Anti-Infantry. They would do 2 MDC damage per shot and get D6 shots against Infantry, D3 if the infantry is in cover and 1 if the infantry is in heavy cover. This makes Infantry in Buildings Nasty.

A Heavy Particle Cannon from the Tomahawk would do 4 Damage to a squad of Infantry.

Infanty CANNOT Roll with Impact.

This makes Infantry pretty hard to kill unless you have Anti-Infantry Weapons.

We need to give buildings more damage than they have now and/or make rules for infantry inside building so that Invid can grind their way in to hunt them down.

Interesting... I will start another topic for stats, as I have some questions about the stats above...
