I will probably work on it this weekend. I already have a name, squadron and symbol, but need to work out the color scheme.

Been working on several. Have my kids workin on them as well. I want a hi-res graphic to work on.

They stated they aren't going to release as hi-res image, to keep a level playing field. This seems like a bad idea as the contest is intended for print and not for viewing on the web. Opinions?

They will probably take the winning image and have theiir graphics team work something up based on the theme.

Personally, i don't have a problem with it because it does kind of level the playing field for thos who have kids who want to participate and others, like me, that can't use anything beyond MS Paint.

I call BS on that line. As there are professional artist who could enter and blow your kids out the water. Why not give a decent graphic so people with the proper tools can use them. It doesn't level it, it limits it.

sounds like there going to pick more than one from the way this is written but i could be wrong

It would be fun if they let us post up our designs here on the forum after the contest was over-

you can always host your image on a site like photobucket or deviant art and then link to the image here.

honestly, black with red isn't an issue itself. it's black with red and a black-widow-spider logo..
i don't think that it would really be lawsuit worthy (unless your pilot has 'kerensky' as a last name anyway..), i just worry over any possible re-emergence of the HG/FASA lawsuit chaos..

or maybe just enough crappy ones that they are having to take their time to sort through before they start picking.

it is also possible that they've already narrowed it down to a short list, but are running them by legal experts to make sure they can use them.

the winner will be printed in the gamebook and made a special character, if i recall the details correctly. so they have to be very careful they don't pick one that is an import of a prominent group in another IP, or doesn't use some trademark'd elements.

There will be a model designed off the winner. I don't think the drawing or art was ever stated to see print. I could be wrong though.

Why else would they give a 72 dpi image if it was meant to see print? That would be a poor choice in running a contest meant for print.

I'm fairly certain we'll see versions printed in the game strongly based off of/inspired by the design and ace winners but not exactly the same in each case. I don't think it's a stretch to believe that most entries will have squadron markings simply copy and pasted off the internet. In order to avoid any legal issues, they'll have to adapt the markings to a more robotechy personalized version that isn't a copy of someone else's (copyrighted?... not sure what legal term covers art) images/IP. Note that this isn't a comment on the pics posted here but rather a generalization.

they specified they'd have their own art department make up new art for the book, using the scheme sent in by the fan that won.
they didn't mention squadfron logo's, but them deriving a fancier one from what was sent in would make sense.

Use the image here, and email entries to info@ninjadivision.com no later than May 31st for a chance to have your squadron and/or ace pilot immortalized in the Robotech RPG Tactics main rule book!

Scan/photograph/email a fully colored version of the VF-1J battloid of your ace pilot/squadron

(Optional) Include a squadron special marking/icon
Limit 1 entry per person per day

Judging will take place the first week of June, and winners will be announced via email and Facebook. Our panel of judges will include the creative staff from Palladium Books, Ninja Division, and Harmony Gold!

Hi there - the resolution is set to give you enough to color and send us your concept - the final selected ace pilots will have their squadrons and hero immortalized in the game book! Which will likely include some spankin new art from our team!

IMO, Kevarin's art could probably just be printed as is.. i doubt they could produce anything more professional in house.

Hopefully there will be news on this contest soon as it feels like it's been forgotten about. I realize that both Palladium and Ninja are likely busy but I'd hate to see them lose part of the good will they garnered with the well run kickstarter campaign by ignoring this. Posting the results of this contest along with a few new renders of mecha would be a good way of tiding people over during the unexpectedly long period between the kickstarter and pledge manager phases.

While I applaud their focus on the project that got them over almost $1.5 million in funding, focusing on that is not mutually exclusive to posting a simple update on the delayed contest. If Palladium has the time to generate a thousand word press release, they've got the time to add "We haven't forgotten about the Design an Ace contest. Thanks for all the great entries and we'll hopefully have the results with the pledge manager update."

As with most things they seem to take their fans for granted. It may not be the case, but it appears so when you look at them offering Max as a GenCon Exclusive, but didn't offer it to the 5,300+ that invested in it already. Max was one of the most requested pieces. The fact they do not address the effect those kinds of announcements might have shows a great deal.

This was such a simple yet good idea and frankly it's already souring for me and the two other people I know online who entered the contest full of enthusiasm. A simple acknowledgement of the delay in any of the three "official" communications since the kickstarter would have been sufficient. Eh.. I'll chime in again if the pledge manager update supposedly out by the end of June ignores the contest again.

I would imagine that when sanity returns to their work schedule, we'll get information.

They release things on their time, when they plan on it. Not ours.

People need to stop thinking of us as investors. It confuses expectations and is misleading.

It could be they haven't even gone through all the submissions. I'm guessing we'll see this information in Sept.

They need to stagger news worthy items with no tentative release date.

Pledge manager is very soon. GenCon is Aug. Sept we'll probably have a better idea if we'll get our stuff in Oct or Nov. That would be a good time to roll out the contest results. Oct is Detroit Fanfare. Hopefully we'll get this game on retail shelves before Christmas and in the new year they can release a sort of "dev path" for the next quarter and what we can expect.

Retail Max and the experimental mecha we missed in the KS is my guess. Perhaps even a glimpse into Malcontent content?

Could be. I'm not saying that they're sitting around twirling their mustaches in glee at the delay but rather pointing out that the only info we have is the original info that said it would be done in the first week of June. A simple "hey, we didn't forget!" would be enough.
