Shooting at Targets Underwater
I've seen a topic in here before that discused how a bullet will only penetrate several inches underwater when fired from the surface. From personal experience, I knew that to not be true. Then last night I was watching Mythbusters and they proved my point. Granted I didn't have the chance to watch the whole show- they proved that a 9mm was able to travel though 6 feet of water and still completely penetrate approximately 2 feet of ballistic gel.
Has anyone else seen this episode?

Yeah, so a bow or a cross bow, you are really screwed.
On the pluss side, the refraction of th water's surface can throw off the aim. So can the actual impact of the round on the water, I'd say penalties to hit are on order and damage will be reduced, more dramatically for bullets than for longer objects like an arrow or spear.

I agree. Not to mention if the trajectory is angled in any way.

As I said. If you're being shot at with a bow or crossbow, you're screwed.

what worries me is the blast overpressure from the home made explosive device tossed into the water. There is a reason as to why Dynomite is used to fishing in some places.

They tested a 9mm, .12 ga. slug, 5.56mmx45 NATO, (I think a .308, but not sure) and a .50 cal. from the Barret M82A1.
The .12 ga. slug blew a hole in the plexiglass tank they were initially using- so they moved to an indoor pool for the rest of the tests.
